PAXOQUIN is used to prevent or treat mosquito bite-related infections of malaria. It doesn’t work against some (chloroquine-resistant) malaria types. This drug is also used to treat certain autoimmune disorders (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis) if other medicines have not worked or cannot be used, usually with other medications. It belongs to a class of antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) known as disease-modifying drugs. It can decrease skin conditions in rheumatoid arthritis and prevent swelling/pain in arthritis, although the exact workings of the drug are not known.
